Celebrated children’s photographer Tamara Lackey leads a special worldwide workshop on the magic, art, and business of child portrait photography. Take a live, front-row seat with Tamara as she works with a wide range of kids. You’ll watch as she works to put them at ease, gets them laughing, and coaxes out their natural personality for fun poses and great family portraits. More importantly, you’ll be part of an ongoing weekend conversation with fellow photographers around the world about how to grow your own successful portrait photography business, while balancing personal and professional lives.

This was by far the most informative amazing course I have taken yet. I have paid far more and walked away wondering what I actually paid for. She really provided so much knowledge on children’s photography, as well as families. Not only was there lecture, but interactive chat, and videos of actual shoots that she broke down and dissected. If you weren’t aware of the actual psychology that goes into photographing children and families I would strongly encourage anyone getting into portrait photography to take this course. It was jam packed full of information. Make sure you have a note pad and paper to take notes. Yes, Tamera talks fast and is very animated, so if she gets ahead of you just back the video up and rewatch it.

This review is a tough one because I don’t want to click “of course” or “no thanks.” I will go with “of course” because truly, Tamra Lackey has so much value to offer. This class is full of knowledge and she is an engaging, descriptive teacher. Without her, this class probably would have been a complete letdown. Unfortunately I believe the CreativeLive team failed her with this one. It was all over the place. The best way to describe it? “Messy.” I found myself constantly upping and lowering my volume to try and catch things being said. Oftentimes I didn’t hear a full question because half of it was audible and the other half not. The “white board” was a disaster. I appreciate the “quickly jot ideas down” approach, but for the purpose it is meant to serve here, it would be difficult to follow for future use. Slides would have been great. At the end of the day, this class is a bit overwhelming for someone like myself who is new to photography. Good class in terms of educator and value, but definitely not worth the $129 price tag. This is a class that I might purchase for $45 max. Save that $129 and put it towards a fundamental class that is all encompassing and then come back to this class when/if you have niched down and want a quicker, easier collection of knowledge.
